"...tap your heels together three times. And think to yourself, 'There's no place like home'."

With its convenient location near the local cancer care facility in Brewer, the word about Sarah’s House is spreading fast, bringing in patients who would otherwise have to drive hours each way for treatment.

Sarah’s House is beautiful thanks to the hard work of a lot of people…many of whom are in this club.  But even more beautiful is the way Sarah’s indomitable spirit crept into every nook and cranny of the community and inspired so many people to come together, giving generously of their time, money, and elbow grease to make it happen.  And the gifts keep coming.

Last week a reception was held to announce a $1 Million gift from Next Generation Foundation to help fund the endowment to keep Sarah's House running, the donation of a customized Dodge Caravan from Darlings Auto Group to help patients get to and from treatment, and a gas card for a year’s gas from Casella Waste Systems to fill the tank of that new “Sarah’s House Mobile” .

This was Sarah’s dream: to create a safe refuge, a place that would feel like a home away from home for those enduring the grueling trial of cancer treatment.  With Sarah’s House up and running like a well oiled machine, cancer patients in Maine won't be needing those ruby slippers to instantly travel the great distances to get home.  All they have to do is take a short drive to go home....home to the house that Sarah built for them.
